New Year

Well another year is upon us and this one is thundering in like a freight train, why, you ask? I have no idea, but I suspect that the older we get, the faster the time goes.

So will you be making any resolutions?

I personally have given up on resolutions, there seems little use really, why would the changing of the year make any difference, just because its 2011, will I actually make a change?

Well I'll make my predictions, this year I will resolve to quit smoking, nope thats no good, that was my new years resolution for about 20 years, but I finally did it in May this past year. So there's one I'm not going to have to keep.

The one thing I do plan, and not really a resolution, because it just happens to be the end of a year doesn't make it a New Years resolution. What I really want to do this year is to reconnect with those people that I have lost contact with since I have been over here in Malaysia. No excuses, for one reason or other I have lost contact with a lot of people and this year I will change that.

So with that out of the way, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, may 2011 be better than 2010 and all your hopes, dreams and wishes come true.

I expect most of you are not going to see this until the 2nd or 3rd, either way, Happy New Year.

You know you want to!

It's that time, that time to do what we have all done many times before, there's no sense resisting the temptation to do it yet again, is there?  The house is empty, and you're not expecting company or anyone to arrive any time soon. The curtains are drawn tightly and the blinds are down. Your favorite music is playing softly on the stereo, that's Joy Devision, a good choice for what's to come.

Turn off your cell phone, disconnect the house line and shut off your Skype. Nothing is going to interrupt you or get in your way of doing the thing you have been waiting all week for.

Things we did as kids that should have killed us!

OK, I have to put a disclaimer here to appease my lawyers, the CSA, the DOT, DOD, DOC, CBC and a lot of other organizations that are only referred to by their initials and pretty much every one else. The nature of this is to say the usual don't try this at home and to warn that by not heeding this very dire warning you could end up a Darwin Awards recipient posthumously, or worse in the back of a patrol car heading to your mom and dads house and trust me, if your mom and dad are anything like mine going to prison does seem the better option. OK, now then, we have that out of the way, lets get on to something more interesting.

Colourful English

I was just looking over some of the posts and I realize that I have used some colourful English, some of which may cause some people to be upset.

To be completely PC, I edited everything to take the swearing out, but it really didn't convey the meaning, feeling of what was written so, I put it all back in, sorry it's the way I talk  and the way I'm going to write. My suggestion to anyone that might be offended would be to mentally edit all the naughty words to something nice.
For example: "That driver was a total Richard Hatch driving like that, where did he get his license, a condom machine?"

I actually don't think I swear all that much, but if it offends you, flock of seagulls.

Cheers

Personal Space, Malaysians have no concept.

There are times when the different levels of "Polite conversation" is blurred in western culture, for instance when you have had a couple of beers too many and are with friends that have also had too many, there is little you can't say. Hell there are times when saying anything at all would be considered impolite, like in an elevator with strangers, to be polite you might say: "Morning, how's it going?", not expecting more than "Good" as an answer. Here that question could end up with a discussion about your co-workers hugely inflamed hemorrhoids, not to mention an offer to see them for yourself.

The Evil WGS (Weapons Grade Sigh)

When I was a kid things were different,  remember this was in the days when life and family had a solid structure, a father would go to work and mom would stay at home with the kids, the parents were the parents and the kids were the kids, there were rules; very structured rules. Mom ran the house and dad would come home after work and would met out the punishment. In some homes, like mine, mom was the judge, jury and the executioner, we never heard her use the "Wait till your father comes home" crap, justice was swift and merciless, without appeals or "Time Outs".  Really who the hell came up with that "Time out" bullshit?, if my mother used that I would have been bad all the time just so I could get a "Time Out" and go off to my room to read, so I wasn't a social kid, I have learned to accept it, I didn't need friends. In my day(fuck I sound like an old guy) the threat of violence was usually enough to keep you out of trouble, unless you were like me.

Malaysians, their love affair with food.

Food in Malaysia is incredible, not only is it good and more varietes then any food court or Heritage Festival , but you can literally get it anywhere, everywhere and 24/7!  I think this is why it is so much a part of the culture here or perhaps why there are food stalls open everywhere and all the time.

Why "Free Falling"

I hate the term blog, I know where it comes from (web log) and I understand why it became the "Word' (internet users are lazy typists) but come on, can't we as educated people come up with something better? Like Journal, it's a good standard, in a faintly musty leather and pipe smoke sort of way, well masculine, where blog sounds like the noise you might make after a few too many pints and a can of kippers. So in keeping with the common internet propensity to shorten everything;  Web Journal - WebJournal - Bournal (Bournaling, sounds naughty in a bad way!) - Burnal (Burnaling) - Urnal - (Urnaling?) Ok so Blog it is!

There's a first time for everything!

This will be the first of many blog entries to come, at least thats the plan.

Ok, first of all if you are looking for the latest gossip about Malaysian singers, than I suggest you go read Berita Harian, Kosmo or NST's daily, I'm not a news source and even if I was would anyone really take it as news and not just more rambling. My personal life is open when it comes to me, but my wife and her career are off limits.
