It's that time, that time to do what we have all done many times before, there's no sense resisting the temptation to do it yet again, is there? The house is empty, and you're not expecting company or anyone to arrive any time soon. The curtains are drawn tightly and the blinds are down. Your favorite music is playing softly on the stereo, that's Joy Devision, a good choice for what's to come.
Turn off your cell phone, disconnect the house line and shut off your Skype. Nothing is going to interrupt you or get in your way of doing the thing you have been waiting all week for.
Relax. Examine the articles you’ve assembled to increase the flood of sensations; loose fitting robe for maximum comfort, silk boxers if you're into that sort of thing, a refreshing drink, wine or beer perhaps. Now lay back slowly, try to contain the excitement of the pleasures which are about to start; this is no time to think about what your mother would say if she caught you, trust me, that will only ruin it for you. You’ve prepared and you're ready for the pleasure to start.
Put it in your hand, lift it up a little, don’t be afraid to look at it with admiration and affection. It’s quite a marvel, isn’t it? The careful application of a gentle caress or a little squeeze before beginning will make all the difference. You might want to use you're other hand to hold it this time, especially if you have been indulging in your guilty pleasure more often than usual. Be sure to check that the lighting is ample for your needs, this is the one time where you should heed your mother’s warning, if done incorrectly this can make you go blind.
Softly cradle the underside, wrap your thumb around the side and maybe over the top, it will respond accordingly, the cover opens smoothly now start reading, it's your time to curl up with an old classic or new adventure.
Perverts; what did you think I was talking about?
I have always been a big reader, but in the last few years I have stopped reading as much as I used to, books that I want to read are not that easy to get here and they are expensive, the same price as in Canada basically, but remember I don't earn Canadian Dollars. I have started reading ebooks on my laptop as well as on my iPhone, while this isn't the ideal way to read, it does cause me a considerable amount of eye strain if I read too long. At least the Ebooks are plentiful and free, but one thing I have found with ebooks is that I have had to reformat a lot of them. Reformatting can be as simple as converting them to a different format, I use Calibre to do the conversions, but sometimes the entire book needs to be fixed. Calibre is a simple program to do the conversion from one file type to another, and it's available for the Mac, Windows and Linux.
A lot of the ebooks I can get for free are in PDF format and need to be converted to epub to read them easily in Adobe Digital Additions which reads epub as well as PDF on my Mac, but the iPhone (iBooks) uses epub files so I convert them all to epub.
One thing about Malaysians is that they don't seem to read just for entertainment, there are a lot of business books and personal development, but fiction is hard to come by. If you go to any Starbucks or generic coffee shop you will see a lot of caucasians reading, but never locals. One thing to note as well is that there is a fair amount of censorship, this could account for the lack of fiction. I have looked at getting an ebook reader (Kindle, Nook, Kobo IRiver ect.) but they are pretty rare here and about 3 times the price in Canada or US so I'll just have to wait.
For anyone that cares, I have added a "Bookshelf" to my blog and if you want you can follow what books I have read. I have read most of the books on my bookself, a few I have yet to read. I think I have close to 10000 ebook files, (epub, pdf, lit, rtf).
